Reviews
by Feng Wei-bin and Fan Guan-jie
My first compliment to this text are to the translation and organization. The language is concise and the terms conveyed without any ambiguity. And, put the dictionary away—the traditional Chinese medical language is the one we know! No need to look up Latin text on the herbs, hurrah! The organization allows one to skip chapters or, if preferred, read from beginning to end. For any practitioner who addresses systemic issues, this proves to be a must-have handbook.
This book demonstrates concrete evidence, logical pattern differentiations, treatment principles and finally, the herbal and acupuncture prescriptions. In case demonstrations, you receive the know-how by seeing how the formula was taken (yes, dosage and administration instructions are given) and how they are modified to continue to treat the systemic issue. Furthermore, the final result when a case goes into remission is discussed. Your patient patterns will fit one of the differentiations, probably with little or no variation.
In addition, samples and techniques from internists with valuable experiences are outlined. Sometimes when multiple issues are present, how one can address it from top to bottom, or exteriorly to interiorly, are discussed. Whether you are treating diabetes or obesity, you will gain the confidence in knowing the theory and seeing the results of its application.
For the benefit of your patients, the text includes a section on how to prevent the disease and demonstrate points on how to address patients who may be less-than-compliant in taking the herbs and changing their diet and lifestyles.
In this book, there were no classic texts left unturned. So, do not worry if you have not read them all—the excerpts that are applicable are here. They prove the points and show the eternal wisdoms embedded within.
Rest assured that the theory and clinical applications are here. After reading this, you are going to feel that you followed a busy clinic and learnt everything there is to know about diabetes and obesity. Best of all, the notes are taken down for you so that you can concentrate on the most important thing: your patient.
